Portfolio Management Services
Markets change, and if you don't have a long term, historically-based perspective, it can cause more than a little anxiety. Let us help.
Investment Plan Documents
Proper portfolio construction begins with determining a client's capacity for risk. After determining the appropriate allocation to risk assets, we'll create an investment policy statement (IPS) documenting the appropriate allocation, investment vehicles and expectations.
Discipline
We keep you disciplined, focused on your investment goals and not on short-term market moves, stock-jocks or the news cycle. We make significant adjustments to portfolios, changing the underlying asset class weightings, primarily as a result of changing client objectives or the normal aging process, and prefer to do so during periods of market calmness.
Portfolio Rebalancing
We'll rebalance your portfolio based on long-term target weightings for each asset class, buying when the asset class falls by a pre-determined percentage, or selling when reaches an upper limit.
Portfolio Construction
We take a scientifically based, time-tested approach to portfolio management. Our philosophy is grounded in the Nobel prize winning research of Harry Markowitz and Robert Merton, and the groundbreaking work of Eugene Fama and Kenneth French. Our approach emphasizes the importance ofproper diversification, low fees, a disciplined investment process and letting efficient markets work for you.
Performance
We'll discuss portfolio performance as it relates to your investment and planning goals, relevant investment themes and market outlook. Importantly, we'll look at performance in light of your accepted risk-tolerance. We believe investors allocated to a well-diversified portfolio are compensated for the risk they take over full market cycles. Evaluating portfolio performance on a short term basis is at best unproductive and at worst, can lead to making poor investment decisions. Over short periods of time, investors should expect portfolios to increase and decrease in value.
Portfolio Reviews
We'll meet between two and four times per year, depending on preference and need, to review progress on previous financial planning action items and confirm your portfolio is in line with your risk tolerance. We'll discuss whether changes are needed to your investment objectives or your portfolio weightings.
If you choose to have us manage your money, our preferred custodian is TD Ameritrade Institutional.
